Terms of sale

Every set of strings is made for one bow, in colours you chose, so the way we work matters more than the fine print. Here it is, in plain words: what you agree to when you order, what we owe you, and what to do when something isn't right.

Last updated 20 August 2026. These terms cover orders and bookings made through this site. If we change them, this date changes with them.

The short version

Six things worth knowing

  • Spec firstYou confirm the bow, the colours and the serving before any money changes hands.
  • Australian dollarsPrices are plain AUD, and string prices include shipping within Australia.
  • TurnaroundWe'll confirm turnaround when we confirm your order, not before.
  • ColoursScreen colours are a guide; the printed chart is the reference.
  • Made to orderOnce a set is on the bench in your colours it can't go back on a shelf, so tell us early if something changes.
  • Your rights standThe Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply to everything we sell, and nothing here takes them away.
Ordering strings

When an order becomes an order

Sending the form isn't the moment you're committed. It's the moment we have something exact to check, which is the whole point of building the spec before anyone pays.

  1. You send the spec

The order form records your bow, every colour choice, any add-on and your contact details. You get a reference and a copy of your set, colours and any add-on by email. Nothing is charged at this step.

  2. We read it back

Tim checks the spec against the bow you have named. If a choice looks wrong for that bow, or a serial or cam number is missing, we come back to you before anything is made.

  3. You pay

Payment is by card, always after the spec is saved. Your order is accepted once payment has gone through on the spec we have both seen.

  4. Tim builds it

Your set is made by hand to that spec and posted to the address you gave us. We'll confirm turnaround when we confirm your order.

Read that email when it arrives: the set and colours on it are what gets built. If one isn't what you meant, or a bow detail you gave needs changing, reply or call 0427 581 864 straight away.

Prices, payment and postage

What the price on the page means

The price beside a set of strings is the price for that set, made in the colours you pick. There's no separate handling charge, no colour surcharge and no charge for speed nocks.

CurrencyAustralian dollars.
PostageShipping within Australia is included in every string price.
Outside AustraliaWe don't publish a price for posting overseas. Ask us before you order and we'll tell you where we stand.
PayingAfter your spec is saved and Tim confirms the order, he sends a payment link by email. Card details are handled on the payment provider's own page and never touch this site.
The price you payThe one shown when you placed the order, even if the price on the site changes later.
Bow servicesPriced separately and done in person at Argenton. See bookings below.

If a set has to be posted a second time because the address we were given was wrong, we'll talk to you about the postage before we send it again.

We never see your card number. The payment page belongs to the payment provider, and all we get back is confirmation that it went through.

Made to order

Changing or cancelling a set

Nothing here is picked off a shelf. A compound set is cut to the lengths your bow needs and served in the colours you chose, so once it's built it suits your bow and nobody else's.

Before it goes on the bench

Call 0427 581 864 or email orders@bigfellasbowstrings.com with your reference. If we haven't started, we'll change the spec or cancel it and sort out the money with you.

Once it's being made

A part-built set in your colours can't be unpicked or resold, so a change of mind at that point isn't something we can undo. Ring anyway. Tim would rather hear about it and work something out than have you sitting on a set you're not happy with.

If the details were wrong

We build to the make, model and numbers you give us, which is why PSE bows need the serial number and HOYT bows need the cam number. If you're not certain what your bow takes, ask before you order rather than guessing on the form.

Colour, in writing

Screen colours are a guide

Every swatch on this site is our approximation of a real spool of BCY thread, and no two screens show it the same way. The printed charts on the colours page are the reference, and the colour name you choose is what we build to.

A finished string that matches the name you picked, but looks different from the swatch on your phone, isn't a fault. If you're torn between two colours, call and describe what you're after.

Australian Consumer Law

Your rights if something is wrong

We don't publish a warranty period on our strings, and we couldn't sign your rights away even if we wanted to. Goods and services sold in Australia come with consumer guarantees, and they apply to everything we make.

In short: what we sell you has to be of acceptable quality, match how we described it, and do the job we said it would. Work Tim does on your bow has to be carried out with due care and skill. When that doesn't happen, the law sets out what you can ask for, and the size of the problem decides whether that's a repair, a replacement or a refund.

Start with a phone call. Tell us what the set is doing, on which bow, and how long you have had it. We would rather look at it than argue about it.

Both pages are published by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission at accc.gov.au. They're the ACCC's words on your rights, not ours.

If a set isn't right
  1. Ring us first

0427 581 864, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Have your reference handy if you still have it.

  2. Or put it in writing

orders@bigfellasbowstrings.com, with photos of the bow and the string if you can take them.

  3. Keep the set

Don't cut it off or throw it out before we have talked. Tim usually needs to see the string to work out what happened.

Bow services

Bookings are after 3pm, and Tim confirms them

All bow service work is done after 3pm. On the booking form you pick a day that suits you; Tim comes back with a time. Until he does, the booking is a request, not a date.

Tune the bow In person at Argenton
$60
Fit strings and tune the bow Or add it to a string order
$80
Broadhead tuning Hunting set-ups
$199

Service prices are in Australian dollars and cover the work on the bow you bring in. If Tim finds something that needs parts or more time than the job allows, he will talk to you about it before he goes any further.

If your plans change

Call 0427 581 864 as early as you can and we'll find another day. A workshop afternoon held open for a bow that doesn't turn up is an afternoon nobody else could book.

Added fit and tune to a string order? Book the day once your strings are made, so the bow and the set are here at the same time.

What to bring

The bow, and anything that goes on it that matters to the tune. If you're having your own strings fitted, say so on the form and Tim will tell you where that leaves the price.

Questions we actually get

The awkward ones, answered

How late can I change my colours?

Up until your set goes on the bench. Ring 0427 581 864 with your reference and we'll tell you exactly what stage it's at, then change it if there's still time.

Why is there no turnaround time on the site?

Because a number that suits one week doesn't suit the next, and a made-up date helps nobody. Tim gives you a real one when he confirms your order, based on what's on the bench that week.

Do the strings come with a warranty?

We don't put a period on them. What you have instead are the consumer guarantees under Australian law, which apply whatever we write here, plus a string maker who answers his own phone.

Can I return a set because I changed my mind?

A set built to your bow and your colours can't be resold, so a change of mind after it's made isn't a return. Before it's made, ring us and we'll sort it out.

The colour isn't what I saw on my screen.

Check the name you chose against the printed chart on the colours page. If the set matches the name, that's the colour, and screens vary more than people expect. If it doesn't match the name, that's on us, so call.

Can somebody else order for me?

Yes, as long as the spec is right for your bow. A gift card is the other way to do it, and then you pick your own colours.

I am a dealer. Do these terms cover me?

These are the terms for ordering through this site. Dealer arrangements are agreed with Tim directly, so start there or give him a ring.
