Privacy: what this site asks for and where it goes
Big Fella's Bow Strings is a workshop, not a marketing operation. The forms here ask for what Tim needs to build your set or book your bow in, it goes to him, and it stops there. This page says exactly what happens to it, in plain words.
It describes how the site works today. Change the site, change this page.
Four things worth knowing
What we ask for
Your name, a phone number, an email, and whatever you tell us about your bow or the job.
Where it lands
Tim's inbox, and the order records behind this site, so your spec can be found again by its reference.
Your card
This site takes no card payments. When an order is confirmed, Tim sends a payment link by email; the card is typed on the payment provider's own page and never reaches this site, so we have nothing to keep.
No tracking
No outside analytics, no advertising pixels, and no cookies set on a visitor's browser. One small thing worth naming: tapping a phone number sends a single ping to the call system our website provider runs, so a call can be picked up faster. It carries the name of this website, and nothing about you or your number. If any of this ever changes, this page changes with it and will say exactly what was added.
A handful of forms, and none of them ask for more than the job needs
Every field on the site is here because Tim needs it to answer you, build the set, or book the bow in. There is no customer account and no password to make.
| The form | What it asks for | Why it needs it |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiryon Contact | Name, phone, email if you have one, what it's about, and your message. | So Tim can answer you the way you'd rather be answered, and knows which of the five or six things it's about before he rings. |
| Bow service bookingon Bow services | Name, phone, email, which service, the day that suits you, and notes about the bow. | All service work is after 3pm, so Tim rings back to confirm a time, and he likes to know what's coming in before it arrives. |
| The string builderon Order strings | The specification: bow type, string colours, servings, speed nocks, the make and model, and a PSE serial or HOYT cam number where the bow needs one. Then your name, phone, email, anything you want to add, and whether you want the strings fitted and tuned. | The set is made to those numbers. The contact details are how you get your reference and a copy of your set and colours, and how Tim reaches you if something in the spec doesn't add up. |
| Gift cardson Gift cards | Who it's for, who it's from, your message on it, and your own contact details. | The card has to have someone's name on it, and we send it to you. |
| Dealer enquiryon Dealers | Your contact details and what you tell us about your shop or club. | Stocking our strings is a conversation with Tim, so this is just the start of it. |
Every form carries one hidden field that should stay empty. It catches the bots that fill in everything they find. A person filling in the form will never see it, and nothing you can see is a trick question.
Where an order goes, from the button to the bench
Same trail for an enquiry or a booking, minus the payment step.
-
You press the button
Until then, nothing has left your browser. The swatches, the string preview and the running total are all drawn on your own screen. Pressing save sends the lot over an encrypted connection.
-
It gets a reference
Something like BFBS-7K3QX. Your name, phone, email and the full spec are saved against it, so the set is built to those numbers and can be found again years later.
-
Tim gets it
The same specification arrives in his inbox and on the board he and Jordan use to keep track of what's come in. You get your reference and a copy of your set and colours at the same time.
-
Payment, if there is one
Only after the spec is saved, never before it. Where the card is typed is the next section.
And that is where the trail stops. It doesn't go on to a list, an advertiser, or anyone who wants to sell you a bow.
The card is never typed on this site
When an order is ready to pay for, Tim sends you a payment link, and the payment happens on the payment provider's own page. That handover is the whole point: a workshop should not be holding anyone's card number, and this one doesn't.
What the payment page is handed
- What you're buying and what it costs.
- The order description and its reference, so the payment can be matched to the right set.
- Your email and phone, already filled in so you're not typing them twice.
- Then it asks you for the card. Where to post the strings is sorted with Tim when he confirms the order.
What comes back to us
- That the payment went through, and which reference it belongs to.
- The postal address you give Tim when the order is confirmed, because someone has to put it on the parcel.
- Not the card number, not the expiry, not the three digits on the back. Those are typed on a page we don't run and can't read.
Not paying by card? Tim can confirm the order and sort payment with you directly. Either way the spec is saved and sent to Tim first, so nobody pays for a set he hasn't read.
What gets recorded just by you being here
Visits are counted by the web host that runs this site, not by an outside analytics service rather than by an outside analytics service, which means there's nothing following you around after you leave.
A page view records
- Which page it was.
- The site you followed a link from, if you followed one.
- The country the request came from. A country, not an address.
- Phone, tablet or desktop.
- Whether it looks like a bot rather than a person.
Your IP address isn't stored, and there's no script in your browser doing the counting.
What your browser holds
- Your order
- After you save one, the summary is kept in that tab so the thank you page can read it back to you. Close the tab and it's gone.
- One cookie
- It isn't for visitors. When Tim opens his own site from his dashboard, his browser gets flagged so his visits don't count in the page numbers.
- Server logs
- Our web host keeps short lived logs, the way every web host does. They're for keeping the site up, not for building a picture of you.
The photos, fonts and swatches on this site are all served from here, so loading a page doesn't quietly call on anyone else.
What we don't do
- No outside analytics service watching what you read.
- No advertising or social media pixels.
- We don't sell, rent or swap your details with anyone.
- No mailing list hidden inside an order form.
- No customer accounts, so there's no password of yours to lose.
- No review widget collecting anything. The quotes on this site are ones customers gave us.
If any of that changes, say we add a booking tool or start measuring something we don't measure now, this page changes with it. It describes how the site actually works, not how we'd like it to sound.
How long we keep it, and how to ask about it
Enquiries stay while they're useful. An unanswered question is no good to anyone, and an answered one is often the start of an order. Order records stay longer: they're business records, and when you come back in three years wanting the same set again, the spec is still sitting there under your reference.
We keep business records for as long as we're required to. Beyond that, if you'd rather we didn't hold something, say so and it goes.
What you can ask for
- What we hold about you, and a copy of it.
- A correction, if we've got a number or a spelling wrong.
- Deletion, where it isn't a record we have to keep.
Tell us the name and phone number you used, or your BFBS reference, so we're looking at the right one.

Email about your detailsQuestions about your details
Do you need my address?
Not to build the strings. There's no address field in the builder at all. Where to post them gets sorted when Tim confirms the order with you.
Do I have to give a phone number?
The string builder asks for one, because if something in the spec doesn't add up Tim would rather ring you than guess at a set that's about to be made. If you'd sooner not leave a number, ring him on 0427 581 864 or email and do it that way.
Who can actually see my order?
Tim and Jordan. The people who look after this website can see it too when they're fixing something, the same way a bookkeeper sees invoices. Nobody else.
Does the colour picker send my choices as I go?
No. The swatches, the string preview and the total are all worked out in your browser. Nothing reaches us until you press the button at the end.
I emailed instead of using a form. Is that different?
No. It arrives in the same mailbox and is handled the same way. So does a message on Facebook or Instagram, although those sit with the app they were sent through as well.
Is the site secure?
The whole site is served over an encrypted connection, the padlock in your address bar, and the forms post the same way. The payment page belongs to the payment provider and is encrypted by them.
Something here not clear?
Ask. Tim would rather answer a question about your details than have you wondering about it.
