The family behind Big Fella's Bow Strings
Two people and one bench in Argenton. Tim has been making bowstrings since 2009, and Big Fella's has been his full-time trade since just before the pandemic. His daughter Jordan grew up shooting beside him and joined the business in 2025.

Tim Richards
My archery journey began at 11 years old and quickly grew into a lifelong passion. I started making bowstrings for myself in 2009 while learning the craft through building and tuning my own bows. What began as a personal interest soon developed into a side business in 2010, before officially becoming Big Fella's Bow Strings in 2015.
In 2019, 3 weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic, string making became my full-time career. As the business continued to grow, my daughter joined the team in 2025, making it a true family business.
Today, we are proud to support the archery community across Australia by working with clubs, individual archers, and sponsored teams from all disciplines of the sport. Giving back to the community that has supported us throughout our journey remains an important part of who we are.
Over 40 years of experience in the archery industry.

Jordan Richards
My archery journey started in 2009 when at 6 years old I shot a bow for the first time with my dad. I instantly enjoyed the sport, and in 2015 my parents bought me my first bow, a sparkly purple PSE Stinger with rainbow strings I begged my dad for.
As my passion grew, and watching my dad work I became interested in the art of making bowstrings. With my dad's help, I began making some strings of my own occasionally.
Then I upgraded to an Obsession HB33 in 2019, which I still shoot today. Archery has given me the opportunity to develop my skills, meet great people, and create lasting memories with my dad. My biggest achievement in archery would be winning the Match Play event in 2023.
I left childcare in 2025 and started working for the family business Big Fella's Bowstrings.
For me, archery is more than just shooting a bow, it's about family, friendships, and making memories that last a lifetime.
The archers we back
Clubs, individual archers and sponsored teams from all disciplines of the sport. Some of them you'll see in the photos on this site, in a Big Fella's shirt.
If you shoot for a club or run a shop, there's a way in for you too. Dealer and club enquiries go straight to Tim.
What that means when you order
Small has a cost and a benefit. The cost is that we're not a warehouse with a call centre. The benefit is everything below.
You talk to the maker
Ring the number on this site and you get Tim or Jordan, not a queue. Your set is built by hand at the bench in Argenton, by the people you spoke to.
Built here, from BCY
In Tim's words: all strings manufactured in Australia with only the best quality BCY materials available.
Nothing is guessed at
Your bow, your colours, your servings and your speed nocks are written down and confirmed with you before any money moves.

Questions people ask us
Who actually makes my strings?
Tim does, at the bench in Argenton, with Jordan working alongside him. He has been making strings since 2009, running Big Fella's since 2015, and doing it full time since just before the pandemic.
Can I talk to someone before I order?
Please do. Call 0427 581 864 or email orders@bigfellasbowstrings.com, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If you're not sure what your bow needs, that conversation is the fastest way to get it right.
Do you make recurve and traditional strings, or only compound?
Both. Compound sets start at $145 for two or three strings; a recurve or traditional string is $45, one or two colours, end serving your call, centre serving black. Start either one on the order page.
Can I bring my bow to you?
Yes, for bow services. Tuning and fitting happens at the workshop in Argenton after 3pm: pick a day, and Tim comes back with the time and the directions. Strings on their own are posted, shipping included within Australia.
Do you support clubs and archers?
Tim and Jordan work with clubs, individual archers and sponsored teams from all disciplines of the sport. If your club or shop wants to talk about stocking or ordering, send a dealer enquiry.
