Meet The Team Behind BFBS
Tim Richards
My archery journey began at 11 years old and quickly grew into a lifelong passion. I started making bowstrings for myself in 2009 while learning the craft through building and tuning my own bows. What began as a personal interest soon developed into a side business in 2010, before officially becoming Big Fella's Bow Strings in 2015.
In 2019, 3 weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic, string making became my full-time career. As the business continued to grow, my daughter joined the team in 2025, making it a true family business.
Today, we are proud to support the archery community across Australia by working with clubs, individual archers, and sponsored teams from all disciplines of the sport. Giving back to the community that has supported us throughout our journey remains an important part of who we are.

My archery journey started in 2009 when at 6 years old I shot a bow for the first time with my dad. I instantly enjoyed the sport, and in 2015 my parents bought me my first bow, a sparkly purple PSE Stinger with rainbow strings I begged my dad for.
As my passion grew, and watching my dad work I became interested in the art of making bowstrings. With my dad’s help, I began making some strings of my own occasionally.
Then I upgraded to an Obsession HB33 in 2019, which I still shoot today. Archery has given me the opportunity to develop my skills, meet great people, and create lasting memories with my dad. My biggest achievement in archery would be winning the Match Play event in 2023.
I left childcare in 2025 and started working for the family business Big Fella's Bowstrings.
For me, archery is more than just shooting a bow, it's about family, friendships, and making memories that last a lifetime.
